HARALD...

... was born in Kristiansand, Norway in the early 1950s and was brought up in Bømlo, on the west coast of Norway. He went to sea at a very young age and became a skipper on coastal and North Sea trade at the age of 27. From there he became a Master Mariner on chemical tankers world wide. During these years he also worked as a coastal pilot for five years, stationed in Honningsvåg, North Cape.

After forty years of working on ships, Heidi joined him in Hamburg, where he ended his long career at one of the world's biggest ship management companies. After ten years in Germany, it was time to retire and move back to Spain. In 2017, Finca Itaca became a reality. When he is not working as a farmer, shovelling dirt or planting trees and vegetables, he spends his time as a skipper sailing Tealie or walking Moity, Max and Milo around the beautiful mountains of Sierra de las Nieves.

A perfect life for a restless soul. At the time of writing he is the proud father of five and grandfather to eleven, and still counting.

HEIDI...

... grew up in South Africa back in the early 1970s and then, when she was nine, she moved to Evje in southern Norway. After graduating, she began working as an IT consultant for different companies in Oslo, Norway. During her holidays, she spent three of them travelling the world as a backpacker. Eventually, she decided to head to Brazil and ended up in Mexico City.

After spending thirteen months in this lively capital, she relocated to Fuengirola, Spain, where she founded zoneazul, an IT company. It was there that she met Harald, her first client, and they married in 2007 at the Norwegian Seamen’s Church in Calahonda, Spain. Harald invited her to join him as the Captain of M/T Kihuland, and who could resist the chance to sit at the Captain’s table every evening? After two voyages and a total of fourteen months travelling the world on this lovely ship, she also ended up in Hamburg, where her life blended in with Harald’s.
